Description:

A Concise History of African America is a superbly written, insightful book that richly informs and intellectually stimulates the reader.  It is a concise, fact-packed, engaging account of the history of the African American people;  it is also a riveting thought piece that at several junctures challenges people to consider the idea that racist attitudes and institutions of the urban North in the 20th century have been more responsible for the current dilemmas of inner city African American life than has the legacy of slavery as such.  The book is ultimately a celebration of a vibrant African American culture that has produced some of the foremost heroes of American journalism, business, religion, political organization, music, culinary art, and technological innovation.

About The Author:

Gary Marvin Davison received his doctorate in history from the University of Minnesota in 1993.  He is author or coauthor of six previously published works that reflect his dual scholarly interests in Taiwan and African America.

With regard to the latter, Davison is currently focusing research efforts on the history of the African American community of North Minneapolis.  He has also served as writer and researcher for publications of the Minneapolis Urban League.  Davison has also, for five years extending to the present time, served as Director of the Salem, Inc./New Salem Educational Initiative, an organization that provides tutoring and advanced academic programming for African American youth in North Minneapolis.
